The place for the small needs of men is a highly valued place in many households: the pee bowl or urinal. E.C.A. Serel has summarized the most important facts about the urinal for you and undertook a little journey through time.
Unfortunately, the inventor of the urinal can no longer be found, but an American named Andrew Rankin applied for a patent in 1866 - for nothing more than a box with a hole in it.
In 1882, the first urinal was patented as a basin by Francis Baldwin, which was a certain shape of a bowl, without flushing water and also without a collecting basin for the urine. The same simply flowed through a hole in the bottom of the bowl onto the floor.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, there have been repeated attempts to introduce women’s urinals, but no concept has really caught on, which is due to the significantly different attitude that women have to adopt, compared to men.
Since the end of the 20th century, urinals for men have not only found their way into public areas, but also into private households. The advantages are apparent:
• Economic advantages: in terms of acquisition and running costs in the form of water consumption, urinals are cheaper than toilets (instead of approx. 6 liters, a urinal requires approx. 2 liters per flush).
• Since there is no physical contact with the urinal, it is the most hygienic option.
• The standard height for the upper edge of the lower edge of the opening is 63 to 67 cm.
• E.C.A. Serel has an edge height in the design of around 70 cm in order to further reduce urine splashing out during use.
And if you have another favor that you wish to do your male customers, E.C.A. Serel has a tip that has already caused a lot of joy: install the urinal below a window at head height – “he” just likes to look into the distance.
